Shruthi Haasan and Simbu for a new tamil movie?

The rumourmills in Kollywood say that Simbu has offered the female lead role to Kamal's daughter and she has not refused the role. They add that 'Valiban' is just the new name of 'Poda Podi', a film Simbu had planned with Sarathkumar's daughter Varalakshmi as the heroine. The project, to be directed by Simbu himself, was shelved as Vaalakshmi backed out of it.

Shruthi debuted in films with the Bollywood flick 'Luck', co-starring Inraan Khan in the lead. Though the film was a flop at the B.O., her performance came in for great praise from one and all.

The multi-talented Shruthi, who is composing the music for her father's bilingual 'Unnai Pol Oruvan' ('Ee Naadu' in Telugu), is being flooded with offers from Tamil.

Thevar statue desecrated - Madurai is in Tension

Tension mounted in the city as the bronze statue of freedom fighter, Muthuramalinga Thevar at Goripalayam junction, was desecrated by some miscreants by smearing cow dung. Later speaking to mediapersons, the state organising secretary of AIFB, P V Kathiravan, said this was the sixth such incident in the southern districts after the centenary celebration of Thevar Jeyanthi in October last. He demanded stringent action against the culprits and dismissal of police personnel in-charge of safety of the statue. Realism triumphs in Tamil cinema with 'Paruthi Veeran'

Director Amir's 'Paruthi Veeran' has been declared a blockbuster, more successful than Vijay's 'Pokkiri'. This is a great achievement for debutant hero Karthi Shivakumar and the director

The top five Tamil films are:

1. 'Paruthi Veeran' - Director: Amir. This is one of the most realistic films to hit the Tamil screens in recent times.

2. 'Mozhi' - Director: Radhamohan. Mozhi continues to have full shows in all the city theatres.

3. 'Pachaikili Muthucharam' - Director: Gautham Menon. The film is not going to be another 'Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu'. But Sarath Kumar's natural performance is worth watching.

4. 'Thirumagan' - Director: A.M. Ratnakumar. This is yet another lousy film from actor S.J. Suryah. Only Meera Jasmine is watchable.

5. 'Pokkiri' - Director: Prabhu Deva. Nothing can stop Vijay starrer 'Pokkiri', which is on its way to breaking records.
